KEY POINTS:
Project-based learning is a pedagogical strategy in which students produce a product related to a topic.
The teacher sets the goals for the learner, and then allows the learner to explore the topic and create their project.
The teacher is a facilitator in this student-centered approach and provides scaffolding and guidance when necessary.
Proponents of project-based learning cite numerous benefits of these strategies including a greater depth of understanding of concepts, broader knowledge base, improved communication and interpersonal/social skills, enhanced leadership skills, increased creativity, and improved writing skills.
When students use technology as a tool to communicate with others, they take on an active role vs. a passive role of transmitting the information by a teacher, a book, or broadcast. The student is constantly making choices on how to obtain, display, or manipulate information.
DEFINITION
Project-based learning: Students independently gather resources and information to create a project and/or product.
Project-based learning, is a pedagogical method in which students are directed to create an artifact (or artifacts) to present their gained knowledge. Artifacts may include a variety of media such as writings, art, drawings, three-dimensional representations, videos, photography, or technology-based presentations. The basis of PBL lies in the authenticity or real-life application of the research and is considered an alternative to paper-based, rote memorization, teacher-led classrooms. These topics listed form a basic to pinned the concepts for my childrens project activity. The choosen concepts not only aim at giving childrens a better view of their layered self but developed a sense of corporation and leadership. I will inform my students to ask, enquiry about recycling to recycling experts and do a little research on how recycling is done. And then arrange for an interview with a popular recycling organisation. And I will also instruct each of the students to come up with interesting questions to be ask for interview. And at last I will inform all the students to compile the data and record it in a sheet of paper. After the project is done every student should write a paragraph about their research. They should also paste photos about recycling. And then present the paragraph about the recycling research in front of the class.

ReplyDeleteSo for any project activity , a teacher should design a Plan for the Project,Create a Schedule, Monitor the Students and the Progress of the Project.Later when the project has been carried on,a teacher should assess the Outcome and evaluate the Experience.There are lots of concepts which can be provided to learners through group discussion or group works in science.Like for examples if we take the concept of different parts of plants in class VI.The students may collect the different parts of plants in group from their surroundings and discuss the the concepts of the different parts of plants in group.The teacher also will help the students to facilitate their learning.
To incorporate more and more learning to students, project based learning can be a popular concept that can be assigned to a group of learners. This allow more student- centered and teachers just guide students in their learning instead of using lectures to provide them with information. Artifacts may include a variety of media such as writings, art, drawings, three-dimensional representations, videos, photography, or technology-based presentations.

Another definition of project-based learning includes a type of instruction, where students work together to solve real-world problems in their schools and communities. Successful problem-solving often requires students to draw on lessons from several disciplines and apply them in a very practical way.
Any project can be assigned to students. The project should be wise and clear with proper assessment. Teachers should see that students are easily communicated with each other while working with their peers.

ReplyDeleteThere are lots of concepts which can be provided to learners......for example, instead of wanting students to plan a garden as the core of the project, then deciding which learning objectives and academic standards fit that idea, planning backward–looking first at the learning objectives and academic standards, then brainstorm project ideas and components of that project (audience, purpose, duration, etc.) This can be useful in making sure that in the course of completing the project, they are actually learning what you want them to learn. That is, you can help align the work of the project with the desired learning outcomes and objectives.”
Several concepts can be assigned as a project activity to a group of learners. For learning Measurement and Motion students can be asked to measure the height and waist of all their family members. They are to find out who is the tallest and fittest, who is the shortest and thickest and make a comparison table in MS Excel. While learning Seperation of Substances students can construct their own water purifier and for learning the Components of Food students can make a poster on healthy diet, with attractive slogans and pictures.
