Environmental Studies is an integrated discipline because its deals with a comprehensive development of an individual's social, physical, and emotional perspective. It also covers all physical and biological environmental of the people such as Family and friends. Food, Water, Shelter, Plants, Animal and everything around us.

It aims to develop a world population that is aware and concerned about the environment and it's associated problems .Environmental studies is an integrative subject because it covers all the features of physical as well as the biological environment .

Environmental studies connects principles from the physical sciences, commerce/economics, the humanities,and social sciences to address complex contemporary environmental issues. It is a broad field of study that includes the natural environment, the built environment, and the relationship between them. The field encompasses study in basic principles of ecology and environmental science, as well as associated subjects such as ethics, geography, anthropology, policy, politics, urban planning, law, economics, philosophy, sociology and social justice, planning, pollution control and natural resource management. approaches are required to address the complex environmental problems of our time. Solutions to climate change problems are good examples of situations requiring complex syntheses of ideas from a vast set of disciplines including science, engineering, social science, and the humanities.

The Environmental Studies is a subject which draws/looks to make scope of a child's surroundings which he/she come across in his/her daily life. It includes the house, family members, water that we always use to drink and bath, animals and plants which we use them in our daily life as food, not only these, all living and non-living are also considered to be the topics or sib-topics from the lesson of a subject. As a matter of fact, the daily life experience of a child is being discussed/facilitated to broaden the scope of his/her understanding leading him/her to make expansioning the original skills and knowledge that one was naturally acquired to more than one aspect and eventually enabled him/her to inculcate knowledge to his/her real life experiences not only in subject concept but with a scope of wide ranging aspects,thereby realizing the major issues and steps to take some measures to how we can manage the nature properly and what are not good for nature and how we should protective all such measures are discussed step by step and grade by grade aiming at to correlate all surroundings in which we have are depending on each other to survive on this earth.

ReplyDeleteTaking "Forest" as an example of the topic in Environmental studies, it connects with Social science if large scale deforestation occur, it may lead to resource depletion and soil rosion; with Mathematics, in statistical analysis of flora and fauna; with Science, in the process of photosynthesis where forest is a major reserviour of oxygen produce by this process; with Health education, air pollution due to forest fires which leads to many health problems and so on.

For example: Due to industrialization, our environment has been affected badly. So, in order to protect our environment for further degradation, there is a need to adopt an environmentally friendly process and technology. In this innovational field of technology, biotechnology has shown good promise. Biotechnology is helpful in other avenues of environmental science.
Economics and various other disciplines have introduced sustainable development which strives towards a growth and development without having severe effects on the environment.

ReplyDeleteIt is true that Environmental Studies or EVS is an integrated discipline. As the name itself suggest, we cannot survive without the environment. Now, the environment suggested here is not just the natural environment but the small surroundings we live in like our homes, families, neighbours, food, water, cultural elements, religion, institutions and so on with which we cannot do away with for if we are to stay alive. Therefore, we can see that it is integrated in every aspects of what we are and who we are as humans. For example: We all need friends be it in school or at home. Our immediate friends at home are our neighbours which we cannot live without so to say. As an individual or society we are here to celebrate the gift of life. In times of joy we laugh together and in times of sorrow we cry together and lend our shoulder and hands in such time. So EVS is very much an integrated discipline.

Abiotic factors include rocks, temperature, and humidity. Every factor in an ecosystem depends on every other factor, either directly or indirectly.
The multidisciplinary nature of Environmental Studies is imbibed in its definition that it is the study of the interaction of physical, chemical and biological components of human surroundings. To put it straight any action taken by human and and its effect on the surrounding and vice versa comes under the purview of Environmental Studies.
