ReplyDeleteGone were the days when women were treated like slaves and in-equals. The world we see today is no longer the world of masculine domination; it is the world of equality of gender in every walk of life. As humans we were born from parents not only from women. We may be born as male or female or transgender but we were born equal by nature, hence we should share natural resources equally. Equality demands that since human beings are the same with respect to certain needs, qualities and capacities, they should be treated equally. Equality requires non-discrimination between human beings on the basis of caste, creed, colour, race, sex or place of birth.

ReplyDeleteIn this small video, a social experiment was done among children, where both girls and boys were given a taste of work life by telling them to fill two vases with blue and pink balls. Upon completing the job, boys were rewarded far more sweets than girls although they did equal amount of work. The children realised that this was very unfair and they shared the reward equally among them.
This short video shows that equal pay can really be child's play. This is one small(but rather big) part in gender equality.

(ii) Girls are practically made to present flowers/voquet during formal school program because generally they are more sensitive,

(iii) In our school or outside formal programs, it's time to consider/select boys as well to present flowers/voquet to guests/dignitaries to do away with the widely practice of selecting girls to take the job, which may be considered as gender bias.

ReplyDeleteActivity-4: Reflections on certain statements as to why certain institutions/ideas and practices require to change:
* Sons and daughters are of the same value in the eyes of the creator. So, it must be so to parents as well. Making sons to be legal heirs of family's property is partiality and not right. It is a convention/ tradition of uncivilized and conservative parents/ communities. It must be changed legally.
* Girls/ females are not objects. They are precious human beings. They must be at liberty to choose between marriage and pursuing knowledge for their secure future, not to be forced.
* In the present day civilized/ cultured society, men are no longer sole caregivers/ nurturers. Women also contributed a lot in this endeavor. So the sense of male superiority must be abolished.
* Many many Indian families were rendered broken, hundreds of women were harassed, tortured, killed or compelled to commit suicide because of the dreadful dowry.
* Preferences of sons over daughters must be done away at the earliest. Daughters belong to the same soul, same flesh, same blood, have same internal and
external organs in the body, have the same stimuli as boys do. Then, why should there be exclusive preferences on children?
* Menstrual taboos and myths are part of superstitions and dreadful practices of certain beliefs and assumptions of certain communities and regions. Everyone must understand that menstrual periods are not man made, but natural. Why should there be loss of precious life of women because of seclusion, imprison during their period?
* Restrictions on physical mobility of girls is a denial of many of their rights. It may lead to their physical, mental and behavioural weakness. They must be taught to move out timely, behave responsibly, politely, dress decently, eat and drink healthily and more safety adds can be given to them so that they can have their meaningful life as boys do.
* Cannot understand why such nonsense practice prevails in today's civilized society, where girls cannot be taken as permanent member of the family. Aren't they humans? They have the same feelings, same responsibility, etc. in the well-being of the family.

ReplyDeleteGender stereotypes make understanding that both boys and girls should equal.
ReplyDeleteI think all genders should be treated equally without discrimination amongst them. They should be given equal opportunity. Hence, we as a Teacher should treat our students equally ie both boys and girls etc. For example during school functions/programs girl students are practically made to present flowers/bouquets to guests/dignitaries, cos' they are more sensitive, gentle etc. But it's time to consider boy students also without gender biased giving opportunities to both genders etc. Gender friendly: https://you tu.be/90Ef51ysRi8 Gender stereotypes: https://you tu.be/y4qxRV4pMcl

Gender stereotype has assailed the society and its progress for the longest time in human history. As teachers, educators, we have the opportunity to address this issue through our students, who will become the adults of tomorrow. Sensitising young minds about gender equality since a young age age will impress the significance of the issue and will impact their future behaviour. Let us use our skills and position as teachers to influence students so that the evil of gender discrimination and stereotyping can be erased.
