During COVID-19, how did you remain in touch with your students? What major changes did you introduce in your teaching? Share your experiences. Take a moment to reflect and post your comment in the comment box.
As i am taking environmental studies,i usually and oftenly share my experience with the students. . For.eg. when im still a students i remember about doing a class activity of planting trees and sometimes drawing competition based on deforestation,importance of water etc.When i shared these kind of my experiences with student i can see in them that it creates an anxiety of doing by themselves by including methods such as drawing( arts) sometimes drama etc on any giving topic. .and this really makes students understand the topic well and sustained the lesson taught.
ReplyDeleteI still remembered vividly in my mind when I was a student, my maths teacher let us collect 30 pebbles from the ground then again he told us to throw away 5 pebbles,then the remaining pebbles is the answer to the problem of subtraction. Now as a teacher myself I used this method to teach during the maths class and the students seemed to be interested and learnt happily.

Q.There are 20 birds on the tree,if a boy shoot his catapult up the tree,how many š¦ left on the tree?
This question make the class to think and give different answers to the teacher.

ReplyDeleteAs a maths teacher for primary classes, I told students my experience during school days when teacher tells is to do mental maths where she asked ,'on weighing 1kg of cotton and 1kg of iron ,which is more heavier,allow us 10 seconds to answer. In this way I apply this method for my students also and they find the subject very interesting and easily understands the subject.

ReplyDeleteIntegrating art in teaching makes it fun for students to learn. We can use marbles, candies or pebbles to teach kids the concept of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. It is more fun if candies are used because at the end of the class, students get to eat them too.

During world's environment day we used to plant trees in reminding of not to deforest trees because they are very useful for all of us. ReplyDeleteArt integrated learning is very useful in teaching process, because it enables the child to evolve from one process to the next traversing path with innumerable creative applications. In these process they observe, discuss, critically analyze, solve issues or problems, discard hesitation, listen to peers, become non-judgmental, and above all participate joyfully. Students can learn the concept and skills of any particular subject taught through singing, dancing ,etc. As an LP ' primary teacher during my arithmetic class , I use pebble's, marbles, and chocolates to teach them addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. etc. After class I would distribute chocolate's equally amongst the students. Many public schools saw their visual, performing and musical arts programs cut completely during the last recession, despite the many studies showing that exposure to the arts can help with academics too. A few schools are taking the research to heart, weaving the arts into everything they do and finding that the approach not only boosts academic achievement but also promotes creativity, self-confidence and school pride
Last time when I taught the subject on environmental studies on the topic the earth's movement .I took 2 children one acted as the sun and the other as the earth ,I draw a circle where the student act like the earth walk around in it and put another in the center act like the sun .I explained the class about the rotation and the revolution of the earth, I found that the student enjoyed it and learnt very quickly and happily.

ReplyDeleteArt Integrated Learning is a useful tool to retain learning of the learners.As a social science teacher,I find that almost all topics can be integrated to arts be it virtual arts or performance art..for teaching about Democracy and elections , we can conduct a mockdrill,for teaching about pollution we do drawings and paintings and also experiments,we can also do cleaning drive when we taught about the lmportance of the resources and how to preserve them.we can also teach students about sustainable development through small practise like to switch off electricity when not needed,to turn off taps etc and by asking them to plant trees

ReplyDeleteIn my Subjects, Integrated learning helped the students to be more human with a sense of acceptance towards each other.They know that all of them are unique and they can do different things in varied ways.
They became more mature in dealing with each other and ready to help another without any discrimination and they have learned to respect all human being, even the Mother Earth and it's Resources.
Art Integrated learning experience can benefit students in forming connections with experiences, engaging their senses and strengthening their memories. It also helps in the students' perception and expression.

Arts integration differs from traditional education by its inclusion of both the arts discipline and a traditional subject as part of learning (e.g. using improvisational drama skills to learn about conflict in writing.) The goal of arts integration is to increase knowledge of a general subject area while concurrently fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of the fine and performing arts.

ReplyDeleteRegarding AIL it reminds me of a movie "School of Rock" where this fake substitute teacher would use his music to teach maths and other subject. Though this teacher played by the popular actor Jack Black was just pretending and not interested at all at first but in the end he found out that the children were talented musicians, designers, computer nerd, artists and so on. So my thought is this, through AIL we can discover the skills, talents, strengths and weaknesses of children. Though the art form used may be just one for one particular day but its up to the teacher to observe all the capabilities and capacities of the students. Hence it is very much helpful if we can use integrate in the learning process.

Mere lecturing and explaining is a teacher centered method., but when we show something of the concept along with drawing, a child catch up very fast. ReplyDeleteArt Integrated Learning (AIL) is a teaching-learning model which is based on learning ‘through the arts’ and ‘with the arts’: it is a process where art becomes the medium of teaching-learning, a key to understanding concepts within any subject of the curriculum. Learners explore creatively while building connections between different concepts through various art forms. Art experiences, both in visual (drawing and painting, clay modelling, pottery, paper crafts, mask and puppet making, heritage crafts etc.) and performing arts (music, dance, theatre, puppetry etc.) lead to a better understanding and construction of knowledge about different concepts. Arts have the flexibility to accommodate age-appropriate opportunities for learners who can explore at their individual pace. This resonates with the experiential learning approach.

ReplyDeleteTo incorporate or integrate art in the learning process is a novel and ingenious idea which will help the learners grasp the subject better which will benefit them greatly. Nursery rhymes and poems are learnt and memorised quickly if a suitable tune is added to them.
As far as my subjects are concerned, i.e., EVS and Science; I would encourage the learners to express their creativity by drawing diagrams or painting pictures that are related to the topic. Also, with Language, I would ask them to act or mimic a character that is part of the lesson. By doing so, integration of art in learning or Art Integrated Learning will be meaningful and learners will be benefited in the long run.
Art integrated learning is very helpful in teaching-learning process as it bypasses the normal boring classroom. It is applicable to any subject, may it be in the field of science, mathematics, language, etc. By applying this technique in the learning process, the learners take interest, become active, learn the topic very quickly and ready to share their ideas. Therefore each one of us should implement this strategy in order to make learning outcomes always fruitful.

Myself that i remembering vidvidly during maths period on subtraction that time i still a student, he said to us all in the class that he has 30 marbles with him he shown us that marbles and he said again that he throw away 4 marbles how many remaining he make us to think and then give him the answer at that moment only.
